I Didn’t Think I Would Graduate. Now I’m Planning for a Career in Nursing.

Before I enrolled at Ector County Acceleration Academies, I was skipping school almost every day. I wasn’t going to class, and graduating was becoming harder and harder.

The hardest part wasn’t that I couldn’t do the work. I had lost motivation in myself. I didn’t believe I could graduate anymore, and I had started to accept that maybe finishing high school just wasn’t going to happen for me.

Ector County Acceleration Academies gave me a different way to approach school.

Being able to take my classes online helped me focus and stay on track in a way that a traditional classroom setting hadn’t. I didn’t have to worry about being surrounded by distractions or constantly switching from one class to another. I could focus on the work in front of me and make progress.

Slowly, I started to realize that I actually could do this.

There’s one moment I’ll never forget. I was down to my last two classes, and I finished both of them within a week. My teachers were so excited for me that they got emotional.

That was when it really hit me: I was going to graduate. I was going to get my diploma.

Graduating changed my whole perspective on my life. The people at Ector County Acceleration Academies never gave up on me. They kept encouraging me, pushing me to keep going and reminding me not to give up on myself.

Because of them, I see myself differently now. I feel like I can accomplish anything I put my mind to, not just in school, but in life.

I used to tell myself that I didn’t want to go to college. Honestly, I didn’t even think I was going to finish high school. But this program showed me that I was capable of more than I thought.

Now, I’ve enrolled in college to pursue nursing.

That’s something I never imagined for myself when I was skipping school and wondering if I would ever graduate.

If Ector County Acceleration Academies hadn’t been available to me, I honestly believe I would be a high school dropout today, without a plan for what came next.

That’s why opportunities like this matter. Students like me sometimes just need another chance — a different path, someone to believe in us and a place where we can keep moving forward.

Ector County Acceleration Academies gave me that chance. It gave me another opportunity to finish school, earn my diploma, change the direction of my life and pursue the career I want.

I’m proud to say I’m not a dropout. I’m a graduate. And now, I’m working toward becoming a nurse.

I didn’t think I could do it but they helped me believe that I could.
