Your Most Supportive Option for High School

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acceleration Academies of South Carolina?
Acceleration Academies of South Carolina is a network of public charter high schools. Our mission is to provide students with a supportive, flexible, and personalized path to graduation.
Is This a Virtual, In-Person, or Hybrid School?
All of our South Carolina academies are hybrid schools. This means students complete their coursework in a blended online curriculum but come to campus each week to work face-to-face with licensed teachers, mentors, and advisors who know them by name. This isn’t a virtual school where students are on their own, it’s a supported, relationship-centered environment designed for students who need more than a traditional classroom can offer.
What Makes Acceleration Academies of South Carolina Different?
  • Students take one course at a time and each course is designed to be completed in 2-3 weeks. This allows students to focus without juggling multiple classes so they can master course material and confidently move on to the next course.

  • This isn't a virtual school where students are on their own. It's a supported, relationship-centered environment designed for students who need more than a traditional classroom can offer.

  • Students create a personalized learning plan on day 1. These roadmaps to graduation outline credits earned, how many credits are needed to graduate, and determine a tentative graduation date.

  • Our academies are open year-round, giving students the opportunity to accelerate and graduate faster if they want, make up credits, and see steady, measurable progress toward graduation.

  • Wraparound support services help students overcome academic and non-academic challenges and graduate with confidence.

  • Our academies are designed with high school students in mind and resemble modern co-working spaces rather than traditional schools.

  • Flexible scheduling allows students to create a school schedule around their life, family, and work obligations.

  • Passionate teachers and staff show up each day ready to make a positive impact on the lives of students.

What’s the Difference Between a Hybrid vs. Online School?

A hybrid model combines in-person learning with online coursework.

Students:

  • Spend time on campus each week completing online coursework while also receiving support, for academic coaching and mentoring, or working on small-group activities
  • Have the flexibility to also complete coursework from home (or anywhere with WiFi)
  • Build meaningful relationships with teachers, staff, and peers face-to-face
  • Benefit from structure and flexibility

Hybrid programs are ideal for students who:

  • Want flexibility but still need or want in-person socialization
  • Learn better with some direct interaction and structure
  • Thrive with relationships and accountability

A fully online model is 100% virtual.

Students:

  • Work from home (or anywhere with internet)
  • Interact with teachers primarily through video calls, email, or online platforms
  • Rarely (if ever) attend in-person sessions

Online programs are ideal for students who:

  • Are highly self-motivated
  • Prefer independent learning
  • Need maximum schedule flexibility
  • Cannot travel to a physical campus

For many students who need encouragement, structure, and connection — not just flexibility — hybrid learning provides the best of both worlds.

What Does a Typical Week Look Like?

Our academies are open Monday- Friday, so students can customize their schedule around work, childcare, or other responsibilities.

At orientation, each student creates a commitment schedule and a personalized plan that outlines the days and times our team can expect to see them on campus each week.

What Are Your Wraparound Supports?
  • Content Coaches — that's what we call our teachers — are available to each student in-person and remotely to provide personalized support and intervention on a flexible schedule.
  • Every student is assigned a Graduation Candidate Advocate that meets with them multiple times a week to support their success and engagement.
  • Life and Career Coaches are available at the campus to provide guidance and resources to help students achieve their graduation goal and plan for post-secondary success.
Are you Accredited?

Yes, Acceleration Academies of South Carolina is accredited by Cognia. This means that our schools have made a commitment to providing high-quality education by undergoing a rigorous process of self-assessment and third-party evaluation by Cognia experts.

What If Transportation Is a Barrier?

We know that getting to campus can feel like the biggest obstacle. That’s why we offer transportation options to help students get to and from campus consistently and safely:

  • We provide public transportation bus passes to students who rely on public transit to get them to and from campus.
  • We contract with a shuttle service with designated pick-up and drop-off hubs in the community. Students can catch the shuttle at a location near them and ride directly to and from campus.

How Do I Enroll?

Starting the application is simple and should take about 15 minutes to complete. You can begin the enrollment application at enroll.accelerationacademies.org. Don’t worry about gathering transcripts or school records ahead of time. Our team will work directly with the student’s previous school to collect those documents during the review process.
