But, for teenagers who have dropped out of high school in the Los Angeles area, what are the options for going back to high school and earning a diploma?
The Los Angeles Acceleration Academies program, which begins June 12, 2024, provides academic support and credit recovery options for teens who dropped out of a Los Angeles Unified School District high school and want to take advantage of a flexible, personalized program. This allows students to go back to school in a non-traditional setting and earn their high school diploma.
If you want to go back to high school after dropping out, here are the five things you should know about Los Angeles Acceleration Academies.
Los Angeles Acceleration Academies works in partnership with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to provide year-round credit recovery support to get teens back on track to earning their high school diploma.
With Los Angeles Acceleration Academies (LAAA), students — also known as Graduation Candidates — are assigned a Graduation Candidate Advocate who supports their personal success. Specialized coaches also provide guidance and resources to help students prepare for their next step after graduating — whether that’s college, trade school, military service or the workforce.
Our unique approach meets each student where they are and provides them the support they need.
For students starting in Summer 2024, we will administer and support online credit recovery courses. Students who begin our program in early June will have the opportunity to complete 1-2 courses before the end of the summer!
During the academic year (August - May), in all three options above, students will take at least four core courses at a time (Ex: Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math).
Acceleration Academies services are provided at no cost to eligible students.
No, really, it’s free! Because we partner with LAUSD to provide credit recovery and academic support, students are able to access our program free of charge.
Teenagers who have dropped out of a LAUSD high school, between ages 14 to 18 and in grades 9-12 are eligible for LAAA.
To apply, fill out the online application.
The LAAA team will contact legal guardians, parents, educational rights holders or adult students to complete LAUSD enrollment, gather any required documentation and attend an orientation session.
Please note that applying to Los Angeles Acceleration Academies does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
We are so excited you’re exploring your options for going back to high school, and we’re honored that you’re considering LAAA as your support team. Helping teens on their journey to a diploma is what we’re all about. We can’t wait to be part of your story.
