As we continue our mission to reach more students who have stepped away from high school but are ready to get back on track to earn their diploma, we are pleased to announce a new Acceleration Academies location in Jacksonville, Florida.
When it opens in January 2026, Duval County Acceleration Academies (DCAA) will provide an alternative high school option for teens and young adults ages 17-21 who left high school and did not graduate with their class. Veteran educator Terry Harper will lead the team as director of DCAA.
Throughout her 17 years as an instructional leader with Duval County Public Schools, Harper has excelled due to her strengths in instructional leadership, data-driven decision making, diversity, student behavior and community relationships. She has supported students and teachers across grades K–12 and has also served as an adjunct professor for University of Phoenix and Florida State College at Jacksonville, helping prepare future educators and professionals.
Known for her collaborative communication style, her passion for professional development and her ability to build lasting partnerships with families, businesses and community organizations, she approaches her work with a focus on the “whole” family and a commitment to driving meaningful change.
Harper often shares one of her favorite inspirational quotes, which beautifully captures her philosophy as a leader: “It isn’t by size that you win, or you fail — but be the best of whatever you are!”
Harper’s depth of expertise, passion for supporting students and families, and her commitment to continuous improvement will have a positive impact on the Acceleration Academies team and future graduation candidates in Jacksonville.
